Christmas Warm-Fuzzies

Since no one reads my blog, I can talk about this.

Last night, Marcie had a very few freinds over for lovely white vegetarian lasagna. (I need the recipe, Marcie!) It was David, Toddie, Travyson, Joshie, Sarah Lockhard, & me. David brought salad he tossed (snerk) and his famous coma brownies. Travyson brought chocolate pasta (which we all agreed was interesting; the strawberry and whipped cream topping was amazing!). I brought Chinese take-out to keep David and my tradition of doing Chinese on Christmas day alive.

A few things to remember:

- At his house, David gave me the fifth season of Kids int he Hall, which means I have a full set, all given by him! I never thunk!~

- David didn't have enough salad dressing, so we went to CVS (one of the few places open) to see if they had a small bottle. I picked up a diet Coke and was waiting when it was revealed that there was no salad dressing there. So, I put the bottle of soda away and said, loudly, "Well! A drug store that doesn't carry salad dressing doesn't deserve my business!" David and Toddie thought this was very funny (see his blog at www.davidroz.com).

- At the Chinese place, they gave me this super-tacky calendar with pictures of hot women in Chinese prom gowns (do the Chinese have prom?) and cars! Every page, a new hot chink-chick and a new hot rod! It's a keeper!!!

- Travyson (Travis & Alyson) announced that they are engaged!!! Whoo hoo! I gave them my standard advice - as a guest at a LOT of weddings, the ones that sucked were the Bridezilla-Pretty-Princess-for-a-Day ones and the ones that rocked were the good parties for the guests. I also said I wanted to be the flower girl. Picture it; me in pink tulle with a fabric-covered plastic headband with flowery ribbons hanging off of it. A big basket of rose petals and a festively decorated leaf blower. I'd dump the petals at the back of the church and blow them to the front! I can't wait!!! I've never wanted to be a drag queen, but I've ALWAYS wanted to be a flower girl!!! Congrats, Travyson!!!

- We had a crap gift exchange. I finalloy got rid of those damn ducks Cathy used as a guilt-trip for me when I told her seven years ago we were NOT starting a Waterfowl Rescue Farm in our apartment and that the baby ducks she brought home without telling me would have to go!

- In the crap gift exchange, I purposefully got a laser level, but I already have a level and I don't hang that many pictures, so I think I will secretly give it to Travis.

- Everyone seemed excited about their CDs. Can't wait to hear their thoughts over the coming weeks.

Finally, I have been meaning for weeks to try my hand at a traditional sonnet (a'la Bill Shakespeare) and after Travyson announced their engagement, I came home last night and made this one. I usually hate almost everything I write, but I don't hate this one:

It has been said, and many unions prove:
Candor has no place in the success of
Marriage, nor truth a part in trusty love.
I am no sage, but I do sense, above
These sideways winks and through the tempests of
Life, love's truth stands firm and fixed and unmoved;
As Shakespeare says, unbending in the sway.
But also, loving changes and shifts like
We do ourselves – learning from day to day -
Revealing ourselves. We’re like precious stone
Worked in a sculptor’s hand, to end the way
We were meant to eternally be known.
Marble’s true sculpture, the artist removes.
True love’s nature, in due time, living proves.

Thanks again for joining us last night! And believe it or not, I like the li'l duckies. (Did you know the tiniest one glows in the dark???)

I also really like this sonnet. And think it's quite accurate.
